With over 15 years of experience in the field of data security, Dirk Geeraerts has a broad range of experience in the industry across multiple regions and organisation types. As VP Sales EMEA Access Management, he plays a key role in managing customer and partner relationships across the region. Thanks to his critical mind and extensive knowledge, Dirk excels at solving problems for customers and responding to market needs. Dirk has over 8 years’ experience within the group. Having started out as a Regional Sales Director at SafeNet, he subsequently worked for Gemalto after the company purchased SafeNet in 2014. Dirk has now joined Thales through its recent acquisition of Gemalto, remaining responsible for the cyber-security business. Previously Dirk has worked in various management positions at ICI, Dow Jones Newswires and Vasco. Because of his international experience across dozens of countries, Dirk has a large network and strong understanding of the industry. Dirk has created new markets and faced many security challenges, both within Europe and Latin America. He also brings broad social knowledge and open-mindedness. Dirk is fluent in Dutch, Spanish, English, French, German and Portuguese. Thanks to his experience Dirk has extensive knowledge of a wide range of IT Security issues, such as data protection, cryptography, access management, authentication and many more. He regularly shares this knowledge through various media in the Benelux, such as cio.nl, Techzine or AG Connect. His vision is that the mindset with regards to a good security strategy must drastically change from 'breach prevention' to 'breach acceptance'. Dirk holds a Master's degree in Economics from the VLEKHO Business School in Brussels (now part of KUL), Belgium. As part of his role he often provides high-level counsel to many of the world’s largest organisations on their IT security approach and shares his knowledge with customers, partners and consumers.
